Who's running the Governor's Cup tomorrow??

I know that Sunday is the final weigh in for HHAC's Biggest Loser and I am just curious...are any of you running the Governor's Cup tomorrow morning?? There is a half marathon, an 8k and I believe a walk as well. Although I haven't been running as much as I usually do over the last few weeks some of my friends/co-workers that work in the salon and spa that have been trying to talk me into running it. Well, I was thinking if some of you are I definitely will challenge myself to do it as well! So let me know! I am not sure where registration is but I can find out or if any of you know let us know!

4 MORE DAYS UNTIL FINAL WEIGH IN!

With just 4 days left until our final weigh in the competitiveness is buzzing around Hampton Hill! Not in a bad way, just a lot of energy with this competition. I love it!!

But at the end of the day, it is about each individual and the changes in his or her life, not the team result. From what I have observed after almost completing our 4th Biggest Loser, is the camaraderie between the people on the teams. Yes, there is "accountability" BUT it's the relationships and bonds that have developed that I think is so cool!

I can't wait to see the final results on Sunday and I will let you know!

Also, stay tuned for our "Fit for the Holidays" program that will start the week after Thanksgiving.

What's after The Biggest Loser???

With less than 3 weeks left of our 4th Biggest Loser, what's next?? Well, there is exactly 10 weeks before our 5th edition begins and lots and lots of "holiday cheer" in between!

Obviously, the goal is to keep a healthy lifestyle after TBL BUT sometimes the holidays can be quite challenging for ALL of us! The holiday parties, drinking, eating, etc.

We have had numerous requests from our Biggest Losers to do some sort of maintenance program in between the 4th and 5th competition AND for the holidays. Our staff is working on what might work out best. Do we start the week immediately following the final weigh in of our current competition and run for 6 weeks taking us right up to Christmas? Do we have  break after TBL and start right after Thanksgiving and still go for 6 weeks taking us through New Years?  OR do we start after Thanksgiving and run for 4 weeks until Christmas? Hmmmmm....Any thoughts?? I will keep you posted!

Less than 3 weeks until the final weigh in!

Who will be our 4th Biggest Loser??

The final weigh in is less than 3 weeks away and I know all the participants are working hard on their diets and exercise!

The thing is this though...although it is a wonderful achievement to be The Biggest Loser, our goal at Hampton Hill is to prepare each participant for life AFTER The Biggest Loser...Making wise food choices and exercising regularly through changing daily habits and routines. THAT is our goal and it IS working!

Before TBL, a simple decision like pulling through a drive through at a fast-food restaurant was common AND easier BUT now that simple decision has changed into a well thought out plan for lunch or at least one that makes wiser food choices. (Not to say you can't get half way decent food at fast food restaurants) The point is to plan AND make better food choices each and every day and that is what we are doing!

Waiting for results...

On your mark, get set, GO!!!

Our challenge last Sunday was a 2-mile run/walk! Since some teams weigh more than others, and to create a "fair" playing field, the teams placed based on the average weight of the team divided by the average time of the team. These were the results based on that formula...

1st place - Garnet
2nd place - Pink
3rd place - Red
4th place - Brown
5th place - Purple
6th place - Green
7th place - Black

Congratulations to all of The Biggest Loser participants! Job well done!

2ND CHALLENGE and WEIGH IN

The Biggest Losers are currently in their 7th week of the competition and are getting ready for the toughest challenge of all at the 8 week mark...a 2 mile run!

Remember, many of these participants have never walked a block, much less walked/run 2 miles! They all start at Hampton Hill and pass Target going toward Pelham Road, they take a right past Pier 1 Imports and head on around Pelham to Rosewood. That is a pretty gradual downward portion of road until they get closer to Rosewood where there is a slight hill but it is then that they begin to realize what is ahead of them right around the corner...the Garners Ferry Hill!! The one that will lead them to their finish!! Folkes, I am not sure if you have ever run this hill yourself but it is H-A-R-D!

Come out and cheer them on on Sunday October 17th at 5:00!!! Shoot! Bring you running shoes and join them!

and more challenges...

Yet another measure of strenth that was tested at the very beginning of this competition just 4 weeks does not look like it is too hard but, it is oh so difficult!

The HOVER or PLANK

More challenges from our 2nd weigh in

This was another exercise that was measured during the fitness test at the beginnning and was another challenge at the weigh in on September 19
Traditional PUSH UPS ...not so easy!

Each participant was given a "fitness test" that included various strength exercises to measure personal strength before the program. After 4 weeks they did great!

The WALL SIT...

"Challenges at our 2nd weigh in"

The first thing taught to the participants with The Biggest Loser at HHAC is the importance of nutrition and how nutrition will be 75% of the reason for weight loss AND keeping it off. Yes, exercise is absolutely necessary BUT proper diet and nutrition is the biggest factor!

Who will be The Biggest Loser after 4 weeks???

Well, only 4 more days until the 1st weigh in since the start of the competition! Who will be The Biggest Loser so far??? What team will win the challenges???

HUGE RESULTS FROM THE RED TEAM

The Red team weighed in last night have lost 45 pounds in 1 week! Andy had the most weight loss at 13 pounds! Congratulations!

And the best thing about their weight loss accomplishments...they are doing it the right way...with proper diet and exercise.

Yes, 13 pounds may seem like too much for one person when you have heard for years that 2 pounds is the more healthy amount to lose per week. Well, the more weight you have to lose, the quicker you will lose and there are a variety of reasons as to why. But know this...these folks are doing it the right way and look, it's working!!!

1 week into The Biggest Loser!

Ok, it's been 1 week since The Biggest Loser started at Hampton Hill and from what I have heard it has been phenominal so far!

In fact, inspired myself, I started REALLY lifting weights and am still battling through the soreness! And the sad thing is...I have owned Hampton Hill for almost 12 years now and KNOW the importance of "resistance training!" What have I been doing over the last few years!!!

Well, I am with all of you out there trying to get "in shape!" The time is NOW! At least it is for me!

Feeling inspired by The Biggest Loser

Although I have exercised for over 25 years I tend to get into a "running rut." I will do BodyPump or BodyStep here and there but not much else. I KNOW the importance of resistance training AND cross training but just haven't been doing it.

Feeling inspired by our newest group of Biggest Loser's I decided to hit the floor at the club yesterday and lift weights. I'm a bit rusty but have done it for years, right? Well, after people that know me got over the initial shock of seeing me actually lifting weights I found myself wandering around not sure where every thing was. Ok, we moved to this facility in 2003 and I don't know where everything is?! I realized it had been way too long since I was serious about lifting weights and this morning I will tell you this...my BODY realizes how long it has been! Ouch!!

BUT, I am back and ready to get into a routine that includes resistance training. Soreness aside, it actually felt good getting back to that side of exercise!
